1) Aerosmith - I don’t wanna miss a thing“I don’t want to miss a thing” was primarily written by Diane Warren, and originally meant to be released as a single by Celine Dion. Instead, it went to Aerosmith, and became one of their most commercially successful songs. Simon Cowell, when appearing as a judge in season 7 of American Idol, claimed that this one of the greatest songs of all time. It was also used as the main title song for the Hollywood blockbuster “Armageddon”, which put focus on the romantic sub-story between Liv Tyler and Ben Affleck. |

3) Ben E King - Stand by meStand by me is another one of the popular wedding song first dance choices due to its classic and untimely nature. I think this one is great because it is slow and meaningful but doesn’t have any veneer of cheesiness to it which makes it a great all rounder if you are looking for something in that direction.

4) Metallica - Nothing Else Matters If you find all the other songs a bit sappy for your liking, then this one is for you. Nothing Else Matters sets a meaningful, sincere, and enchanting tone that will flood the room with great atmosphere. It’s also a relatively slow song, (unlike Metallica’s other works), so you won’t need to jump around in the ear like kangaroo. Although obviously you can if you wish. |
5) David Gray - This years loveThis is a relatively new song compared to others in the poll, but certainly not one that should be overlooked for your first wedding dance. It was originally released in 1999, but was further made famous when included in the soundtrack for the 2004 movie “The Girl Next Door”. Give it a listen and see what you think?

6) Shania Twain - From This Moment |
7) Eric Clapton - Wonderful Tonight “Wonderful Tonight” was realised in 1977, and written by Eric Clapton for Patie Boyd, who he later went on to marry in 1979. This was in fact Patie’s second marriage, her first being to the Beatles star George Harrison. Although this is a beautiful song, if you are at all superstitious I would avoid this one as Pattie later broke up with Eric Clapton just nine years after they tied the knot. |
8) Stevie Wonder - Isn’t she lovely“Isn’t she lovely” is a fantastically upbeat and cheerful song, written by Stevie Wonder as a celebration of the birth of his daughter Aisha. If you feel that the slower songs are a bit cheesy for your liking, this could be one to seriously consider as it is a fun and sincere celebration of a special moment. |
9) Chris De Burgh - Lady in redLady in Red is about Chris De Burgh’s first wife Diane, and how he felt the first time they met, and obviously more specifically what she was wearing. It proved to be a huge hit that captured the imagination and romantic side of virtually every woman on the planet, reaching #1 in over twenty countries.

10) Louis Armstrong - We have all the time in the worldThis song is one of the all time wedding classics, and an especially classy song to have on if you are staging your wedding in an elaborate location. Nothing could go down better than Louis Armstrong’s soft and husky voice surely? |
11) Al Green - Let’s stay together “Lets stay together” was ranked 60th in Rolling Stone magazine’s “500 Greatest Songs of All Time”, which was published a few years ago in 2004. This is a fantastically atmospheric song and one of the classics that is sure to enhance the mood of your special occasion. |
12) Robbie Williams - AngelsBy far Robbie’s best song, and a great all round mood setter for the first dance that should get some tears rolling out of people’s eyes. Angels eventually went on to sell a massive amount of 2 million copies worldwide. |
13) Carly Simon - Nobody does it betterI should imagine most people will associate this song with the 1977 James Bond movie “The Spy Who Loved Me”. It has been gaining in popularity over the last few years for wedding dances, and contains some great lyrics that fit well into the context of the evening. |
